The netbook has certain intrinsic virtues that make it valuable in itself, even in the face of the new stars, the tablets.
What are these virtues and in what cases it is suitable to choose a netbook? For example, when you have to enter a lot of text or work with complex spreadsheets.
For the time being, the keyboard and mouse are unbeatable in the field of productivity.
The laptop is more than the netbook in computing capacity and in screen size, but at the expense of a larger size and weight and less autonomy.
One question that surges over and over again among my students is "How to choose the right netbook?"
To evaluate netbooks, four variables are usually considered: screen size, disk space, amount of RAM memory and microprocessor type.
Today a netbook should have a screen not less than 10.1 inches and hard disk of 260 to 320 gigabytes (GB).
Even more important is the amount of RAM. All the computer processes need memory and software applications require more of it every year, so the more memory the better. If the amount of RAM is poor, i.e. less than 1 GB, the netbook becomes obsolete faster.
In the case of the microprocessor, all of them come with a chip Atom and we have only to decide which model to choose. It is advisable to buy the more powerful, in this case, the N550 or N570, which are microprocessors with two cores. Have in mind, however, that these chips consume a little more energy than the N4xx, which leads us to the most important issue in the election of a netbook: the duration of the batteries.
These machines must have enough autonomy and the key to this is to choose batteries of at least 6 cells. With 3 cells the duration between refills will be very disappointing.
Another key factor is whether the keyboard is comfortable or not. It is very advisable to perform a keyword testing before buying.
Finally, we have the operating system. These machines come almost always with Windows 7 Starter, which is enough for most tasks, however you can download and install any taste of Linux, for example Ubuntu. Most IT pros consider Linux the best operating system but windows is just fine for most of us.
As you can see, the outside design and price of a netbook are important issues but it is essential to pay attention to technical specifications.
