Whichever you choose, it is important to know that each manufacturer goes above and beyond to ensure quality of product and compatibility of its merchandise with your printer.

Compatible toner cartridges are that which are produced by a third party manufacturer. Meaning, it is made of all new parts which are compatible to your printer but are not necessarily produced under the same brand that your printer manufacturer is. The parts are designed to very closely mimic that of another manufacturer thus providing a very similar product to the consumer. The benefit of compatible toner cartridges is that they are made up of entirely new materials and not from those which are recycled. In addition to that, they are sometimes lower in cost than those which are OEM. Depending on your demand for quality assurance or price range is, a compatible cartridge might be the best option to go with. However, there are many choices to fit your needs.

Another option is refurbished toner cartridges, also known as remanufactured or recycled toner cartridges. These are cartridges which are recycled by a company. What basically happens is that a company will take an original OEM cartridge that is no longer useable and disassemble it to make it into a new product. The process takes a used cartridge and replaces parts that no longer work with ones that do, tests it for reliability, and re-fills it with toner. These cartridges are great for the environment because they use recycled parts and can be very cost effective in some situations. However, it is best to purchased refurbished or remanufactured cartridges from a reputable and reliable company that has a good reputation. A reliable company will test out and replace broken parts on these cartridges to ensure that they are in proper working condition that is as good as new.

Another option for buying a toner cartridge is to purchase an OEM cartridge. This stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, meaning, the brand which your printer is will be the same manufacturing brand that your toner cartridge will be. These of course are determined by your printer's manufacturer to work at the most precise level with your printer. If precise quality is something you are concerned with then OEM might be your best option as they are designed to specifically work with your printer by the printer company. However, a disadvantage to these is that the price will be slightly higher as you are buying from a name brand company.
